Nigerian Government: Release 'The Bus'

As citizens of the UK, US and other countries, we request that you urgently release "the Bus", the memorial sculpture to Ken Saro-Wiwa and his fellow activists.

We strongly believe that people of the Niger Delta have the right to a clean environment, and to live free from persecution. Ken Saro-Wiwa and his colleagues were "judicially murdered" in 1995, on trumped-up charges, in response to their campaign against oil company pollution and abuses of human rights. We support people's peaceful protest in defence of their rights.

This Living Memorial is an important part of remembering their lost colleagues' contribution, and in symbolising a more hopeful future for all Nigerians. It also marks the issue's international significance, which is why we write to you now.

We have no connection with Nigerian politics, but affirm the universal importance of human rights, environmental justice and cultural memory. For these reasons, please release the bus.
