You are cordially invited to attend an IDEARS series seminar organised by the Weeks Centre for Social and Policy Research, London South Bank University. The seminar will be held in partnership with the Ethiope Foundation. IDEARS stands for International Development, Emergencies and Refugees Studies.

The seminar will be of particular benefit to academics, researchers and campaigners interested in environmental protection, social impacts of ecological emergencies and human rights.

The theme of the seminar is “Governance & Oil Extraction in the Niger Delta”. The Niger Delta in Southern Nigeria is one of the most environmentally degraded regions of the world due to decades of oil extraction and inadequate government regulation. We seek to address the following issues in the seminar:

  • Governance and corruption
  • Approaches to ecocide eradication
  • Issues in public health and pollution
  • Effectiveness of campaigns and initiatives
