Dear RSW supporters,15 years ago today, Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight others were executed by the Nigerian military government. Last year, Shell paid out $15.5 million to settle accusations that the company played a part in the killings. Yet for many Ogoni people[1] who were shot, killed, raped or tortured – there has been no justice.This year, PLATFORM is doing more to hold Shell accountable for its human rights abuses. Following revelations in The Guardian[2] last night, we will be publishing detailed investigations into Shell’s collusion with the Nigerian military, in the 1990s and today.

Later today, I will be going head to head with Shell Nigeria at a public debate in Coventry University. I will ask Shell what they are doing about the daily oil spills that pollute the drinking water and farms of rural communities; and why Shell refuse to stop the poisonous and illegal practice of gas flaring. Last night, candlelit vigils in Port Harcourt were reportedly disrupted by police violence[5]. Despite government repression, the events and protests continue. Right now, the world remembers the Ogoni campaign. Organisations across the globe are marking the 15th anniversary of November 10th from Rome, Den Haag, Brussels[6] , South Africa and Benin.  Be sure to check out two new European coalitions demanding that Shell Clean The Niger Delta[7] and calling for corporate accountability[8] on human rights issues.
