This booklet was published to go with the DVD ‘Refining Memory[1]‘ by filmmaker Judy Price and artist Andy Conio, commissioned by Platform in 2005. The booklet contains essays by Platform, Ken Wiwa jr, and five international artists shortlisted for their proposals for the Living Memorial to Nigerian writer and campaigner Ken Saro-Wiwa in the year of the tenth anniversary of his murder. The artists are: Sokari Douglas Camp, Siraj Izhar, Emmanuel Jegede, Emily Johns, and Frances Newman/Jeff Jackson/Knott Architects. Ken Saro-Wiwa was executed by the Nigerian Military government along with 8 Ogoni colleagues on 10th November 1995. They had been campaigning against the devastation of their environment by oil companies, chiefly Shell, and were arrested on faked charges.
