“I accuse the oil companies of genocide against the Ogoni people” Ken Saro-Wiwa
It’s twenty years since Ken Saro-Wiwa and 8 other Ogoni people were executed. The Ogoni people are rising once more for justice. Please join us as we stand with the Ogoni people and demand that Shell cleans up its oil pollution in the Niger Delta. In 2015 we will send the Battle Bus memorial sculpture to Ken Saro-Wiwa by Sokari Douglas Camp to its rightful home in the Niger Delta as a symbol of solidarity and a catalyst for change
“The bus coming to Nigeria will evoke the kind of emotions when Ken was here. The Bus coming to Nigeria will look as if Ken was away in exile and is returning home. The effect will be the same.” Celestine AkpoBari, Ogoni Activist
To get the Battle Bus to the Niger Delta, to catalyse an unstoppable movement for change, we need your help to raise £45,000. Please can you help us to raise the £45,000 needed by June next year to make this a reality? Donate today and tweet about it and we’ll offer you a limited edition Battle Bus Ticket, signed by the artist Sokari Douglas Camp. We will be in touch regularly to let you know how it’s going and what you can do to help. Thank you.
Platform is a small, dynamic charity that combines art, activism, education and research. Whether supporting people in the Niger Delta to stand up to the big oil companies, researching the impact of oil pipelines or producing art and poetry with young people to explore issues of race and power, Platform’s work inspires positive change. The need for ecological and social justice across the world underpins all that we do.
Become part of our growing network of Sustainers by making a regular monthly donation below. This is so useful to help us plan our work with more confidence. Sustainers are invited to meet and talk with Platform’s campaigners and artists – and other Sustainers – in a twice-yearly event, and are invited to be more involved in our work. Contact [email protected] for more information. Thank you.
Leave a legacy
“Platform is doing such brilliant and inspiring work that I wanted to support them, but I work part-time and don’t have much money to spare each month. Then I realised I could leave Platform money in my will. Few organisation’s are close to my heart, Platform is one of them, and I wanted to leave some of what I will have earnt over my lifetime to support their future work. Money that I am sure will be stretched, shared and used to maximum effect. I hope that my love of, work and commitment to social and environmental justice, will live on and endure through their continuing work.” Platform Supporter
One, lasting way that people can can help support Platform is by considering us when you make or change your will.
By leaving a gift in your will you can provide vital support to our work that extends beyond your lifetime. We realise that making a will can be very personal. If you’d like to talk it over, please give me (Tanya) a call on 07450787450, or email [email protected] Thank you.
