Exxon calls the shots, workers take the hit 

The looming closure of Mossmorran is no surprise to this government. Despite repeated calls for a transition plan, ministers have once again failed to act and instead let private industry call the shots. 

ExxonMobil treats people as if we’re disposable. Whether it’s workers being last to hear that their jobs are on the line, or neighbourhoods losing sleep to flares as loud as jet engines – it’s clear that they’ll do anything to protect their £25billion profits. 

CEO Darren Woods scooped a pay rise knocking on 20% last year: 231 times more than ExxonMobil pays an average worker. Where is he this week, as workers and their families reckon with this latest bombshell?

What’s stopping Shell from shutting up their operations at Mossmorran in a few months, leaving yet more workers to pay the price? Our industries are being set up to fail.
